Kingston Wharves Ltd (KWL), a privately held wharf in Port Bustament Jamaica, has grossed a US $4.66 Million profit for the first nine months of 2014. The wharf, which attracted approximately 204,200 20-foot container units (TEUs) and 90,870 domestic TEU's in 2013 is seeking to evolve into a major transshipment hub for vessels traversing the Panama Canal. To facilitate this the company will invest US $ 70 million for a phased upgrade which will include the erection of a modern 24-hour logistics complex with modular warehouse space and the acquisition of gantry cranes among other things. Currently, the terminal offers 9 deep water births for containers, bulk shipping services, 22 hectare of open storage and 30,000 square meters of covered warehousing and cold storage.
